Here is some practical information to make your stay in Istanbul easier and more enjoyable.

Emergency Numbers

In case of any emergency in Turkey, you can dial the following numbers (Free of charge):

112
Medical Emergency
155
Police
110
Fire Department
Istanbulkart

For public transportation (Metro, Tram, Bus, Ferry), you need an "Istanbulkart". You can buy it from yellow vending machines at stations or kiosks.

Museum Pass

To skip lines and save money, consider buying the "Museum Pass Istanbul". It is valid for 5 days and covers most major museums like Topkapi Palace.

Taxi Tips

Official taxis are yellow. Always ensure the meter is running. Ride-hailing apps like BiTaksi or Uber are safer and reliable alternatives.

Currency Exchange

The currency is Turkish Lira (TRY). Exchange offices (Döviz Bürosu) offer better rates than airports. ATMs are widely available.

Electricity

Turkey uses 220V, 50Hz electricity. The standard socket is the European two-pin type (Type F). Bring an adapter if needed.

Dress Code

Istanbul is modern, but modest dress is required when visiting mosques (headscarf for women, no shorts/sleeveless tops).
